Australia’s Metallium says it will receive up to 2400 tonnes per annum of e-scrap for its first metal recycling plant in the US under an agreement with Glencore.
The ASX-listed company didn’t disclose agreement terms, saying they were “standard for Glencore’s secondary-materials supply arrangements”. CEO Michael Walshe said the “defining moment” for Metallium meant a consistent, secure and high-quality feedstock that was the number one need of every processing technology company.
Metallium wants to make its flash joule heating (FJH) technology the go-to solution for e-waste metal recovery, initially via its Texas facility.
“E-waste is the world’s fastest-growing waste stream, rising at double-digit rates and containing vast quantities of precious and strategic metals,” the company says, describing current recovery methods as slow and costly.
Next steps involved finalising delivery scheduling and logistics to enable commissioning and initial commercial-scale processing campaigns.
Metallium’s share price is up more than 200% over the past 12 months, capitalising the company at about A$580 million.
