ABD Solutions has confirmed the appointment of a Western Australia-based general manager to lead the demonstration of its autonomous vehicle technology to mines and other potential users in Australia.

As flagged by InvestMETS.com in September, UK-based ABD has made Andrew Van Der Merwe GM Australia. Van Der Merwe was most recently national business development manager for Freudenberg Filtration Technologies, a supplier of filtration and pressurisation systems for heavy mining and construction vehicles.

He was also WA sales manager for EagleBurgmann, an industrial seal-supply joint venture between Germany’s Freudenberg Group and Eagle Industry Group of Japan.

ABD Solutions is part of London-listed vehicle simulation, testing and autonomous technology firm, AB Dynamics.

ABDS managing director Matthew Price told InvestMETS.com in September: “We see Australia as a primary area for strategic growth.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in our solutions throughout Australia and within WA and to capitalise on this, we are in the final stages of establishing a local operation based in WA.

“Over the next three-to-six months the primary aim is to bring Indigo Drive, our vehicle autonomy technology, to WA and demonstrate its capability and functionally whilst continuing to tailor it for the opportunities that we are already engaged with.”

ABDS said Van Der Merwe’s appointment expanded its presence in England and Japan and was a “key part of our strategy to establish local representation and enhance engagements in new markets”.

“Andrew’s primary goal is to bring ABD Solutions’ revolutionary autonomous vehicle technology to Australia, with in-country demonstrations planned for 2024,” it said.
