Barminco into final swing at Flying Fox

Mining contractor Perenti’s underground unit will wrap up a 20-year association with the Flying Fox nickel mine in Western Australia after winning a A$30 million, nine-month contract extension to see out the life of the high-grade operation.

IGO, which acquired former Forrestania operations owner Western Areas last year, will continue mining at Spotted Quoll, near Flying Fox, for the next 3-4 years while it develops a new long-life nickel mine at Cosmos near Leinster.

Barminco, part of Perenti, has been the primary mining contractor at Flying Fox since the end of 2004 and will continue underground drilling, development and mining into the back half of this year.

Perenti says the contract extension won’t impact its FY23 guidance range.
