Develop has snared a second significant underground gold mining contract, winning the bidding for OceanaGold’s Waihi North project on New Zealand’s North Island.
The A$200 million, five-year development contract at Waihi North adds to Bill Beament-run Develop’s work at Bellevue in Western Australia, recently extended into next year.
Toronto-listed OceanaGold plans to build a US$350 million mine at Wharekirauponga, about 10km north of its existing Waihi operation, to access a high-grade, 1.2 million ounce deposit after winning approval under the NZ government’s new Fast‑track Approvals Act.
Develop is scheduled to begin developing access tunnels in the first half of 2026.
“This contract reflects the strength and depth of our mining services division, which includes some of the most experienced underground mining specialists,” Beament said.
