First Mode powering ahead

Anglo-backed company ‘punching well above its weight’, says Australia VP

Someone said walking through the nondescript entrance to 165 Aberdeen Street in Northbridge, Perth, was like walking into the Tardis and it was ironic because the owner has been in a race against time to save the world since 2019.

The Tardis, of course, being a fictional time machine in the iconic Dr Who TV series.

First Mode, which converted the former Toyota sales and service depot in Northbridge into its Western Australia HQ, says on its website it’s working for “people and planet”.

It pivoted only a year or so ago from being a consulting engineering company to a heavy industry clean-energy powertrain company with a US$200 million funding injection and order from mining major Anglo American to retrofit more than 400 large diesel-engine haul trucks with First Mode’s nuGen hydrogen-battery alternative.
