First Quantum Minerals has placed a US$22 million processing equipment order for its $1.25 billion Kansanshi S3 copper expansion in Zambia, due for completion in 2025.
The order for Metso cone crushers, flotation cells, thickeners and a clarifier follows last year’s sale by the same supplier of two 25MW grinding mills to FQM for S3.
The S3 expansion is planned to double Kansanshi’s plant throughput to 53 million tonnes a year to produce about 250,000tpa of copper.
FQM is also expanding its Kansanshi smelter to 1.65Mtpa from 1.38Mtpa to produce more than 400,000tpa of copper anode.
