Lycopodium to build Tanzania gold plant

Australian engineering services company Lycopodium will build the gold plant at Perseus Mining’s US$523 million Nyanzaga gold project in Tanzania under a new $31 million EPCM contract.

Lycopodium previously engineered and constructed Perseus’ Sissingue and Yaoure gold processing plants in Cote d’Ivoire. It also did multiple study phases and front-end engineering and design work for Perseus at Nyanzaga.

ASX-listed Perseus announced a final investment decision (FID) to develop 80%-owned Nyanzaga in April. The new mine is expected to produce about 2.01 million ounces of gold at AISC of $1211/oz over 11 years, starting in early 2027.

The government of Tanzania has a 20% non-contributing interest in the project, about 60km from the country’s second largest city, Mwanza.

Lycopodium’s EPCM scope includes the engineering, design, procurement, construction management and commissioning of a five million tonnes per annum conventional carbon-in-leach processing plant, plus non-process infrastructure such as 11kV power reticulation, water supply from Lake Victoria, a tailings pipeline, decant return, workshop and warehouse.

“Our extensive knowledge of this project and long-standing relationship with Perseus, having worked alongside them in the development and engineering support of their current operating gold mines in Africa, including Edikan in Ghana, and Sissingue and Yaoure in Cote d’Ivoire, ensures we are well placed to provide confidence of outcome for the successful development of Nyanzaga,” Lycopodium CEO Peter De Leo said.
