Mining’s rate of renewable energy installation was about one-third of what was needed to meet ambitious long-term net-zero carbon emission goals, an industry summit has heard. However, the need to accelerate generation and also electrification investment had created “a perfect storm for collaboration”, the Electric Mine Consortium’s Graeme Stanway said.
Speaking at the Decarbonising the Resources Sector Summit in Perth, Western Australia, Stanway said the success of the consortium in joining together 22 mining companies and leading suppliers to accelerate mine electrification was not something he had seen before in his 30-year career in industry.
