Worley wins new Brockman iron ore EPCM

Staff reporter

Australian engineering services group Worley has been appointed to deliver the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) phase for Rio Tinto’s US$1.8 billion Brockman Syncline 1 (BS1) iron ore project in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

Worley said the EPCM contract covered construction of a new primary crusher, overland conveyor, a non-process infrastructure precinct and a temporary camp for construction workers. It said services would be executed by Worley’s team in Perth with support from its global integrated delivery unit in India.

Rio Tinto said earlier this year BS1 would produce up to 34 million tonnes per annum of iron ore, leveraging existing plants.

BS1 is a satellite mine development about 8km north of Brockman 4, which produced 43Mt of iron ore in 2024.

Worley did the definitive feasibility study for BS1.
