Nasdaq-listed Autodesk’s US$3.6 billion acquisition of MaintainX adds circa-$135 million of annual recurring revenues to its new Autodesk Operations Solutions (AOS) software arm.

“Autodesk is expanding beyond design and make to operations, ensuring data and insights flow seamlessly in a continuous lifecycle,” Autodesk CEO Andrew Anagnost said.

“Our goal with MaintainX is to bring deep operational expertise, contextual data and workflows that enhance our ability to use AI to converge digital and physical worlds.”

San Francisco-based MaintainX, established in 2018, claims to be “pioneering a next-generation approach to AI-powered maintenance and asset management” across a range of industries worldwide, including heavy industries such as mining and construction. Its 14,000 global customers are said to include the likes of First Quantum Minerals, Bravus Mining & Resources, McEwen Mining and Komatsu.

“MaintainX is the number one solution for mining operations,” the company claims.

“Equipment failures cost companies $1.4 trillion annually and many still rely on outdated tools,” co-founder and CEO Chris Turlica said when MaintainX raised $150 million at a reported $2.5 billion valuation last year.

“We built MaintainX to change that.”

“I’m proud to see our customers offset external pressures by reducing unplanned asset downtime, parts and labour costs while turning their frontline professionals into the knowledge workers they deserve to be with AI.”

Autodesk, also headquartered in San Francisco, generated $7.2 billion fiscal 2026 revenue, up 18% on the previous 12 months.

The company said operations represented a significant opportunity for Autodesk and a “natural extension of the company’s platform strategy”.

“Operations is where organisations manage the systems, assets, facilities and workflows that keep their businesses running every day,” AOS senior vice president Stephen Hooper said.

“Autodesk is enabling customers to move from managing operations to continuously improving them, deriving more value from their data and positioning them for the coming wave of AI-driven workflows.

“MaintainX brings deep expertise in maintenance and frontline operational workflows that complements this broader strategy.”

In its acquisition investor presentation Autodesk described MaintainX, the product, as a leading computer maintenance management system, “the key system of record and action in the operations lifecycle”.
