Epiroc says two orders worth more than US$22 million from Australian miners for “connectivity solutions” will enable automation projects at the buyers’ mines.
Staggeringly, at a time when the mining industry is looking to promote itself as modern and changing technologically, Epiroc wasn’t able to identify purchasers of its technology.
The Swedish equipment manufacturer said the mining companies ordered long-term evolution (LTE) and digital connectivity solutions that include telecommunications towers, huts and power systems.
“The solutions will strengthen safety and productivity by providing the remotely located mines with reliable, secure and high-speed bandwidth to enable applications such as automation, fleet management, and real-time data,” it said.
“They will be used both at new mines as well as for the expansion of existing mines.”
Epiroc said Radlink, an Australian company it acquired control of in 2022, was facilitating delivery of the contracts.
“We are seeing good momentum for our digital solutions and connectivity is the very foundation for our other advanced digital offerings that support our customers, such as situational awareness and collision avoidance,” Paul Bergstrom, president of Epiroc’s Digital Solutions division, said.
