Shaun Mitchell has taken on the role of CEO at Australian mining software firm, MaxMine, after joining the company last year as chief operating officer.
Rohit Selvaratnam, former chief financial officer at Seequent and Royal Adelaide Hospital operator, Celsus, has also joined MaxMine as its CFO.
Founder and executive chair Tom Cawley, who was interim CEO, said the appointments came at a time of significant revenue and employment growth for the privately-owned company.
“We’re delighted Shaun has accepted the CEO role. His technical expertise and proven track record in growing businesses are exactly what we need as MaxMine enters a phase of rapid expansion,” Cawley said. “He will be supported by Rohit, who joins us with a wealth of financial experience.”
MaxMine’s software was helping mining customers achieve efficiency gains and reduced carbon intensity in one of the world’s “hardest to abate” sectors. Cawley said the new leadership team would focus on accelerating speed-to-market as the business scaled and on embedding AI into MaxMine’s operations and products.
Before joining MaxMine, Mitchell was CEO at defence technology firm Ocean Software and previously held leadership roles at Metricon and ECi Software Solutions.
“MaxMine’s strength lies in our deep understanding of mining operations at every level, from executives to truck drivers, ensuring our platform supports the decisions each individual needs to make,” he said.
“While our analytics and coaching are already delivering strong results we have an opportunity to push this even further with AI, unlocking even greater insights. AI thrives on data and MaxMine holds the most complete dataset in the mining industry, with over 14 million hours of classified, labelled and synchronised operational data. This unparalleled depth positions MaxMine at the forefront of AI-driven decision support systems for the mining sector, offering insights that no other provider can match.”
