Oman state-backed Mazoon Mining has signed a US$30 million deal with Finland’s Metso for copper concentrator equipment.

Announced at the Future Minerals Forum 2025 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the contract is for delivery of crushing and grinding circuit plant and equipment, including semi-autogenous grinding (SAG) and ball mills, flotation, thickening, classification and filtration units, and plant analytical systems.

Mazoon, part of Minerals Development Oman (MDO), is aiming to start copper concentrate production from the Yanqul plant in the A’Dhahirah Governorate in the first quarter of 2027. Ore for the 2.5 million tonnes per annum plant is coming from Mazoon’s five nearby openpit mines. The facility is designed to produce 115,000tpa of copper concentrate.

“The Mazoon copper project is a cornerstone in positioning Oman as a global hub for copper concentrate production,” MDO CEO Mattar bin Salim Al Badi said in Riyadh.

“Spanning 20 square kilometres, this project will soon become the largest of its kind in the country, thanks to our strategic partnerships and commitment to employing innovative technologies.

“This collaboration marks a significant milestone for MDO, reinforcing our global partnerships while driving efficiency and sustainability in our mining and processing operations.”
