Finland’s Metso has won a €10 million order to supply process equipment for the US$333 million New Simberi gold mine expansion in Papua New Guinea.
New Simberi 50-50 owners Lingbao Gold Group and St Barbara are increasing annual production to circa-200,000 ounces of gold by doubling the mining rate to 20 million tonnes per annum and adding a new fresh sulphide ore comminution and flotation processing circuit.
Metso is supplying grinding, flotation, thickening and filtration equipment, including Vertimill regrind milling technology, TankCell flotation and VPA Pressure filtration technology for concentrate dewatering.
“The New Simberi gold project expansion represents one of the most significant gold processing developments currently underway in the Pacific region,” Metso Asia Pacific minerals vice president, David Tulloch said.
New Simberi project director Andrew Lawry said the mine’s production expansion came with a mine life increase to 13 years.
“Metso’s process technology offering and demonstrated experience in delivering large-scale gold processing solutions were key considerations in selecting them as a major equipment supplier to the project,” he said.
