Australian contractor talks more M&A

Australian electrical contractor Southern Cross Electrical Engineering (SCEE Group) says it is “actively exploring a range of actionable acquisition targets” after delivering record profitability in fiscal 2026 and finishing the year with a A$261.5 million cash balance and record order book.

The company, which has commercial, infrastructure and resources business divisions, said its $810 million order book was up 18.2% on the prior year.

Its overall FY26 revenue fell 10.3% year-on-year to $718.7 million as major projects in Western Australia and New South Wales wound down. However, managing director Graeme Dunn said a platform had been set “on which we will deliver our significant forecast growth in FY27 and beyond”.

“We have a record order book and cash balance, an unprecedented pipeline of data centre opportunities and significant exposure to Australia’s energy transition and infrastructure spend,” he said.

“We remain committed to delivering further acquisitions and maximising the benefits of our diversified multi-disciplinary offering.”

SCEE bought Force Fire in 2025 and MDE Group in 2024. It said it aimed to add further geographic diversification and new high-voltage capability as well as growing existing group disciplines through any new acquisitions.

It reported $360 million of infrastructure, $247.2 million of commercial and $111.5 million of resources revenue in FY26.

In mining and resources it has ongoing contracts with BHP, Rio Tinto and Sino Iron and SEME Solutions to provide mine-site and accommodation villages security upgrades.

ASX-listed SCEE has a current market capitalisation of about $1.39 billion.
