Gerald Whittle – “no, not the famous Whittle” – says he’s been circling the globe for 20 years trying to convince miners to make more money. It’s only in the past year or so that he’s been expressly asked to model carbon intensity next to net present value in the enterprise optimisation studies his company does. Going forward he believes “if you can get the same NPV at a lower carbon intensity … this is the plan that’s going to succeed”.
