The former BHP vice president, innovation and ventures, Grant Caffery, recently joined Chicago-headquartered consulting firm, Clareo, as its Australia director. He spoke with InvestMETS.com in his first interview since taking on the role.
An industry veteran of more than 30 years with a “deep passion for driving technological change and integrating sustainable solutions within the mining industry”, Caffery brings a holistic view of the mining technology landscape – from exploration geophysics and mining, to hydrometallurgy and smelting – to his new role.
He talks about the need for “radically more efficient and sustainable” technologies and processes, holes in Australia’s innovation ecosystem, and factors that could change the incentive for mining companies to tackle efficiency projects.
