SLR acquires Wardell Armstrong

Deal expands SLR's mining and metals environmental expertise

SLR Consulting CEO Bradley Andrews says fellow UK consultancy Wardell Armstrong is a “great strategic fit” after announcing its acquisition of the 187-year-old firm and its circa-550-strong environmental, engineering and mining advisory team.

Buckinghamshire-based SLR has made about a dozen acquisitions in the past five years, expanding in the mining and metals advisory space, among others. It bought respected Canadian mining advisory business, RPA, back in 2019.

Wardell Armstrong’s “roots are in mining and minerals” but these days “we’re just as strong in ground engineering, waste resource management [and] environment and planning”.

“We are excited to work with Wardell Armstrong to offer an even broader range of services to our clients while expanding our global reach and reinforcing our commitment to sustainability,” Andrews said.

The merger is said to create a combined group of 1800 consultants across Europe.

“This collaboration enhances our ability to address even more of our clients’ environmental and sustainability needs,” Wardell Armstrong International managing director Alison Allen said.

Wardell Armstrong marked its 185th anniversary in 2022 when then managing director Keith Mitchell said the firm had “a bright future ahead of us”.
