Contract mining major Thiess has secured a 14-month extension of work at Indonesian energy coal producer Bayan Resources’ Wahuna mine in Satui, South Kalimantan.
Bayan has four operations in East and South Kalimantan and says Wahana produces up to two million tonnes a year of thermal coal from opencut mining.
Australian-based Thiess says it will continue overburden removal and mining at Wahana, where it has been working for more than decade. The extension “enables the client to access additional coal resources, unlocking greater production output through 2025 and 2026”.
Thiess CEO Michael Wright said the contractor had a strong relationship with Bayan and the contract extension “reflects the trust they place in our team to deliver safe, sustainable and efficient mining solutions”.
