Thiess business unit Pybar has won a contract for “specialised raiseboring services” at BHP’s Prominent Hill copper-gold mine in South Australia.

It will complete five ventilation raises and 11 inclined ore passes at the mine, 650km north-west of Adelaide. The works would facilitate safe and efficient ore flow throughout the Malu orebody to the newly constructed Wira Shaft, Pybar said.

The underground hard-rock mining contractor, formed in 1993, was acquired by Thiess last year.

“We welcome the award of this contract to Pybar, which demonstrates the expanding services the Thiess group companies continue to offer our clients,” said Thiess CEO Michael Wright.

“This contract award for Pybar strengthens our presence in South Australia where Thiess has been delivering mining services at the Prominent Hill mine since 2005. We look forward to continuing our partnership with BHP and delivering this project safely, efficiently and sustainably.”
