US industrial software company Aspen Technology says widening of its “digital initiatives” with Austrian energy company OMV Group will focus on renewables, supply chain and industrial data optimisation.

Former state-owned oil and gas firm OMV now boasts annual sales of more than €60 billion and activities in 30 countries.

AspenTech said its selection by OMV as “its strategic innovation partner” continued a plus-20-year connection.

“We aim to become a net zero business by 2050, to accelerate the energy transition, and to proactively expedite the transition from a linear to a circular economy,” said OMV value chain optimisation senior VP, Michael Sattler.

“To do that we need to build positive and proactive relationships, maintain our agility, and be able to effectively respond to market volatility and demand.

“Working with AspenTech gives OMV the best chance to unlock its potential at a rapid pace.”

AspenTech CEO Antonio Pietri said the company’s strategic relationship with Vienna-headquartered OMV was built on years of trust.

“It further underscores the role advanced digital technologies can play in helping industry leaders like OMV meet their net zero targets,” he said.
