Canadian mining technology and innovation funding champion, Don Duval says an expanding pool of targeted venture capital in the country is creating a “very strong market pull” for new ideas and firms. “The liquidity growth rate for funds looking to invest in technology selling into the mining industry is exceptional,” he said on a webinar hosted by Australia’s Austmine.

Duval, CEO of Ontario-based NORCAT and co-founder of the Sudbury Catalyst Fund, told a predominantly Australian webcast audience there was a pool of as much as C$500 million looking for mining technology growth opportunities – versus $25m only five years ago.

“On the venture capital equity side, I’ve never seen anything quite like it and it’s creating a very strong market pull,” he said.
