‘I have no doubt that AI will revolutionise mineral exploration’

Toronto-listed microcap Kodiak Copper Corp says it plans to expand use of Vrify AI mineral targeting software to “enhance exploration and drilling” at a copper-gold porphyry project in southern British Columbia.

The explorer, which has a circa-C$32 million market value, says search data from its MPD project was analysed by Vrify’s AI software with the aim of highlighting potentially prospective areas. Initial results were “encouraging”, picking up drill targets already identified by Kodiak as well as “a number of new prospective areas”.

The latter would be investigated as part of Kodiak’s 2024 exploration program.

“Moving forward, the dynamic nature of the Vrify AI-driven geo-targeting system is expected to result in more real-time and adaptable exploration strategies at MPD,” the company said.

Vrify, founded by Canadian mining executive Steve de Jong, last year raised C$6 million of equity funding from RCF Innovation (nee Jolimont), Beedie Capital and Tiny Capital.

de Jong said the funds would be used to enhance Vrify’s 3D virtual site-tour communication platform and delivery capability, “explore artificial intelligence applications”, and grow the company’s 60-strong workforce.

“I have no doubt that AI will revolutionise mineral exploration by vastly improving the integration and evaluation of large geological data sets, thus accelerating drill targeting, enhancing efficiency and reducing exploration costs,” Kodiak CEO Claudia Tornquist said.

“We are thrilled by the initial results from our work with Vrify.

“Their powerful mineral targeting software fuses cutting-edge AI technology with human expertise in an iterative process, capable of validating existing targets and generating potential new ones at a rapid pace.

“MPD is well suited to AI-enhanced exploration as it is a treasure trove of data, with Kodiak’s extensive project database complemented by historic information spanning many decades.

“Vrify AI is an exciting new addition to Kodiak’s exploration toolkit and we look forward to applying its full potential at MPD.”
