Caterpillar, ThoroughTec reset global alliance

Mining and construction machinery giant Caterpillar has renewed a global cooperation agreement with South Africa’s ThoroughTec Simulation that the two companies inaugurated in 2021.

Under the deal, Caterpillar sells and supports ThoroughTec equipment operator training simulators through its vast international dealer network.

ThoroughTec gets access to Caterpillar technical data and product engineers, “which uniquely empowers ThoroughTec Simulation to produce the world’s most accurate and realistic Cat equipment simulators”.

ThoroughTec CEO Justin Collins said the company shared a common vision with Caterpillar “to deliver the most realistic and effective operator training possible”.

The South African company started developing Caterpillar equipment simulators more than 20 years ago and currently has units for more than 40 different Caterpillar machine models.

Caterpillar’s major rival, Japan’s Komatsu, bought the Australian-based global leader in mining equipment simulator technology, Immersive Technologies, in 2019.
