Swedish manufacturer Sandvik has received another significant mine automation technology order from Chile’s Codelco for its circa-US$5.6 billion El Teniente underground copper expansion project.
Under the latest US$29 million deal, Sandvik is supplying AutoMine load and haul infrastructure and a new loader for use in the Andesita mining area.
Andesita, Andes Norte and Diamante comprise three new operating levels at the vast El Teniente complex, 80km south of Santiago.
Sandvik previously announced $44 million and $17 million equipment and technology orders from Codelco for El Teniente underground projects.
The government-controlled Chile copper producer is reportedly spending about $39 billion over 10 years to extend the life of ageing core operations in the country.
