Experienced project management specialist and major capital project advisor Evan Karjalainen has joined leading independent mining consulting firm Enthalpy as general manager for project management services.

Karjalainen, most recently managing director of K Project Services, has more than 30 years of experience in the resources, energy and government sectors, in Australia and Europe.

He has specialised for the past 14 years in project and commercial controls in owner and contractor organisations as both an employee and a consultant. As well as project controls experience and work on several multi-industry major capital project health checks, Karjalainen spent nine months developing an industry-leading estimating system for a large infrastructure project. The project supported rapid first principles estimates used for long-term capital planning.

Enthalpy CEO Paul Harper said the firm had an extensive track record of delivering successful project management services, having run numerous large projects over 30 years. The consultancy’s associate model allowed experts such as Karjalainen to be “carefully selected to match complementary skills into project owners’ teams”.

“We’re very pleased to have Evan on board to continue to develop and grow our project management services in Australia and to work with our broader local and global project management network, as well as to grow our local team,” Harper said.

Karjalainen has an IT masters from the University of New South Wales and science masters (mechanical and process systems) from Cranfield University. He volunteers his time to undertake chief financial officer duties for two non-profit organisations in Australia.
