Dutch geodata services group Fugro says its acquisition of Perth-based Galt Geotechnics will enable it to accelerate expansion of the GroundIQ platform it launched last year.
“Australia needs faster and more comprehensive ground intelligence,” Fugro Pacific director Simon Clode said after the company announced the “small acquisition”.
“Combining Galt’s local presence with Fugro’s global geodata leadership and digital innovation will accelerate GroundIQ adoption and create operational efficiencies.”
Established in 2009, Galt is a Western Australian mining, energy and infrastructure-focused geotechnical consultancy with 35 employees that reportedly generates about A$10 million annual turnover. Fugro said it would give it an Australian hub for GroundIQ, set up to combine its established ground intelligence services with fast-moving sensor and digital technologies.
“Using advanced sensors, digital workflows, analytics, deep learning algorithms and AI, [GroundIQ] produces 3D ground models that improve subsurface understanding, shorten investigation timeframes and strengthen planning, design and construction decisions,” it said last year. Fundamentally, its aim was to reduce uncertainties about subsurface conditions and help clients make better, earlier planning decisions.
“We look forward to contributing our expertise and helping launch Fugro’s game-changing technology in Australia,” Galt director Owen Woodland said.
The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to customary conditions precedent. Integration planning is already underway to ensure continuity for clients and a smooth transition for employees.
Amsterdam-listed Fugro generated about €1.85 billion revenue in 2025. The company’s infrastructure business includes its mining and metals market activities.
