Los Bronces opts for Komatsu truck automation

Japanese mining and construction equipment manufacturer Komatsu is retrofitting a huge fleet of its ultra-class trucks at Anglo America’s Los Bronces copper mine in Chile with its vehicle automation system.

Despite the size of the investment, no public cost details were provided by either party.

Komatsu CEO Hiroyuki Ogawa said the company’s FrontRunner Autonomous Haulage System (AHS), deployed on more than 500 trucks since 2008, was being added to 62 of Anglo’s 930E 290-tonne-payload dump trucks by 2024.
