Australian mining and civil contractor Macmahon Holdings has been confirmed as underground contractor for the A$490 million Mt Marion lithium expansion project in Western Australia.
Macmahon has been awarded a A$355 million (US$250 million), three-year contract by Mt Marion owners Mineral Resources and Jiangxi Ganfeng Lithium Co.
Underground development, suspended in 2024 due to low lithium prices, will complement the Mt Marion openpit operation started 10 years ago. Macmahon will also undertake production mining operations.
The contractor’s CEO Michael Finnegan said the Mt Marion win “positions Macmahon Underground firmly on the global stage as a tier one contractor in future-facing commodities”.
