Almalyk Mining and Metallurgical Company (AMMC) has ordered €70 million of Metso Outotec plant and equipment for a zinc roaster in Almalyk, Uzbekistan.

Finnish manufacturer Metso said two identical gas cleaning and sulfuric acid plants – used to process zinc roaster off-gases into industrial-grade sulfuric acid – should be operational by the end of 2025.

The company will also deliver utility facilities, such as common cooling tower and air compressor systems.

The new gear will replace AMMC’s existing gas cleaning and sulfuric acid production facilities, improving operational efficiency and reliability and significantly reducing environmental impacts.

Metso said it was booking the €70 million into its 2022 Q4 orders received.

It will also add €18m of copper anode casting shops, ordered by producers in the USA, China and Africa, to its Q4 tally.

“Today, most of the world’s copper anodes are produced with Metso Outotec’s proprietary anode casting technology,” said Metso senior sales manager, smelting, Harri Talvensaari.

“We have delivered over 100 anode casting shops around the world, and our frontrunning technology is used globally by the leading copper producers. Our anode casting shops are compatible with different types of smelting technologies, enabling reliable operation and consistent throughput.”
