Australia’s Austin Engineering has named former Macmahon Holdings and DDH1 CEO Sy Van Dyk to take over from David Singleton as managing director next July.

Singleton stepped up as CEO of Austin in mid-2021 and the company has since made important strategic investments and improved its operating performance. Its share price is up more than 440% in that time.

Van Dyk, a non-executive director of Austin since March 2018, will officially start as CEO after a handover period due to start in May, 2025.

He is currently president of ASX-listed Perenti’s drilling services arm, bolstered by Perenti’s 2023 acquisition of DDH1. Van Dyke also spent almost 13 years at Caterpillar dealer WesTrac, where he was acting CEO for a period.

“Sy has significant ASX executive leadership experience in large, globally focused, customer facing companies,” said Austin chair Jim Walker.

“He also has the necessary operational and sector credentials to continue to build and grow the company.”
