FLSmidth has reported its second big Chile copper comminution equipment order this week, worth a combined US$80 million.
The Danish manufacturer said an unnamed but “long-standing” copper mine owner had ordered a high-pressure grinding roll and a gearless ball mill, plus mill liners and long-term parts supply, in a deal worth about $26 million.
That followed a $54 million sale to a “copper expansion project in northern Chile” of the world’s largest gyratory crusher, a semi-autogenous grinding mill and three ball mills, with installation and commissioning expected in late 2029 and early 2030.
FLS said the HPGR/ball mill were due to be commissioned next year.
Qasim Abrahams, FLS products business line president, said the northern Chile copper mine’s SAG mill would feature the world’s largest SAG mill trommel screen while the ball mills would be the largest installed in Chile.
FLS was working closely the project’s engineering, procurement and construction contractor to integrate its equipment and process expertise into the overall project design and execution.
The collaboration supported alignment across the process flowsheet, equipment interfaces and delivery schedules for the new concentrator, Abrahams said.
