Toronto-listed copper-tailings reprocessor Amerigo Resources has been recognised for the second year in a row by Chile’s by Fundacion Desafio Circular and its Circular Awards.
Amerigo Resources produces copper and molybdenum concentrates from the El Teniente mine tailings of the world’s biggest primary copper producer, Codelco. It has produced more than 1 billion pounds of copper since 2003 at its 100%-owned MVC operation near Rancagua, Chile.
The Circular Awards highlight initiatives advancing the circular economy in Chile. More than 290 submissions to the 2026 awards were evaluated by a jury of 33 specialists and representatives from a range of sectors.
MVC was recognised in the latest edition of the awards for process water recycling and energy efficiency initiatives. The former reportedly achieved a 78% water recycling rate in 2025.
“MVC is circular by design, transforming tailings into valuable copper and molybdenum while continually finding better ways to use resources responsibly,” Amerigo CEO Aurora Davidson said.
“A 78% water recycling rate is an outstanding achievement that demonstrates how innovation, operational excellence and sustainability can work hand in hand.”
MVC produced 48.2 million pounds of copper at a US$1.65/lb “normalised cash cost” in the first nine months of this year. It produced 17Mlb at $1.55/lb in the September quarter.
