Copper major Codelco has ordered about US$17 million worth of Sandvik automation technology and loaders for use in part of its giant El Teniente mine complex in Chile.
The machines and AutoMine Fleet system, which can support up to 13 autonomous units, will be delivered to the Recursos Norte operation this year.
Sandvik said Codelco would have more than 40 of its autonomous trucks and loaders at El Teniente next year.
“The order is a continuation of Sandvik’s long-standing partnership with Codelco on automation solutions, and further supports Codelco’s goal of operating the world’s most automated and digitalised mine,” the manufacturer said.
