FLSmidth books new HPGR order

Denmark’s FLSmidth has confirmed the sale of high pressure grinding rolls (HPGR) worth about US$43 million to an unnamed Asia Pacific copper concentrator owner, saying the two units will be delivered next year.

The order booked into its 2024 Q1 ledger is the second significant order for HPGRs FLSmidth has announced in the past month. CEO Mikko Keto suggested mine owners were voting with their cheque books on FLSmidth’s “market leading technologies”.

“The grinding technology that FLSmidth will deliver is among the most environmentally friendly technologies available,” the manufacturer said, citing HPGR energy efficiency versus autogenous milling and other rock comminution systems.

As well as the HPGRs the latest order includes auxiliary electrical and automation equipment, first-time spares and wear parts package, site supervision and training.

“The original need for the HPGRs arose from the customer’s challenges of increasing ore hardness and decreasing metal grades as the mining pit deepens,” FLSmidth said.

“Upon installation of the equipment the miner will benefit from increased throughput capacity, lower power consumption and extended roll life.”
