Denmark manufacturer FLSmidth says a new multi-year service contract connected to high-pressure grinding roll (HPGR) installations at three iron ore mines in Chile reflects favourably on its aftermarket capabilities in the region.
“Key focus for the customer has been to enhance productivity and extend the lifetime of its HPGRs,” FLSmidth said, without identifying the “leading Chilean iron ore miner”.
Compania Minera del Pacifico (CMP), the mining arm of Chilean iron ore and steel group CAP SA, is the leading iron ore producer in the region and Chile’s largest steel producer in Chile. It is also a HPGR user.
FLSmidth said HPGRs were subject to significant wear and tear.
It said the iron ore HPGR service contract would be managed out of a service centre located close to the three mines – presumably Antofagasta (La Negra) – which was equipped to manufacture large HPGR parts.
“Prior to winning this new service contract FLSmidth has previously delivered HPGR roll tires to the customer, which have proven to last more than three times as long as the originally installed roll tires as well as increased operational availability and significantly reduced recirculation,” FLSmidth said.
“For long our HPGR solution has been regarded among the best in the industry.
“The fact that we can win a large service contract on a non-FLSmidth HPGR platform proves that we have the service concept to back up the technology, securing enhanced productivity and extended lifetime.”
FLSmidth says it has installed at least 155 HPGR units worldwide.
