A joint Perenti-ABB mine electrification study for IGO’s US$560 million, 1.1 million tonnes per annum Cosmos nickel project will canvass underground mine haulage and power management.
The Australian-based mining services company and Swiss engineering and equipment group ABB set up a collaboration partnership last year.
Their initial “all-electric” mine study for IGO will tap ABB’s eMine electrification and automation capability and Perenti’s deep mining and mobile fleet management expertise. The latter also has advanced operations modelling and study competency in its idoba technology arm.
“Experts from the three companies will work together to provide a pathway for the optimum design of mine electrification at … Cosmos,” ABB said.
“This will include mine design optimisation for electric operations, production and operating philosophy, fleet selection, power distribution and electrical infrastructure design, electrification system and battery management, ESG and safety impact analysis, and cost modelling of both capex and opex.”
