NACG expands Queensland coal contract

Staff reporter

Canada’s North American Construction Group says expansion of a long-term contract at a metallurgical coal mine in Queensland, Australia, has added about C$125 million to its order backlog.

NACG said expanding the scope of an existing five-year contract by 50% at an unnamed mine required an additional 13 218-tonne-payload Komatsu trucks. Eight were bought last December and the other five, costing about $25 million, would be accounted for in NACG’s 2026 second and third quarter capital ledger.

NACG said the amended contract ran through to September 2029.

“This contract expansion … adds meaningful revenue visibility and contractual backlog while also highlighting the disciplined way we deploy capital against identifiable demand,” CEO Barry Palmer said.
