Thiess’ newly acquired underground hard-rock mining arm, Pybar has secured more work at the Eloise copper mine in Queensland, Australia.
Thiess, the world’s largest surface mining contractor, bought Pybar from Metarock for A$65 million earlier this year.
A four-year, $149 million contract to establish a 3km “link drive” connecting Eloise underground mine infrastructure to copper and gold resources at the adjacent Jericho deposit, continues Pybar’s long-term association with Eloise.
Mine owner AIC Mines said last year Jericho resources totalled about 180,000 tonnes of copper and 110,600oz of gold.
Eloise produced 12,500t of copper and 5000oz of gold in concentrate in the 12 months to June 30, 2024.
“Pybar has been working at AIC Mines’ Eloise copper mine since 2020 and we’re proud that this is our third contract at the Eloise Complex, and our second with AIC,” Pybar general manager James Glover said.
Jericho development works are said to have started earlier this month.
