Contract mining major Thiess will start a new five-year mining, haulage and remediation stint at Indonesian thermal coal producer Bayan Resources’ Melak mining complex in East Kalimantan next May.
Thiess said the A$345 million (US$230 million) extension at what Bayan calls the Teguh Sinar Abadi and Firman Ketaun Perkasa mines will see it provide load and haul, drill and blast, coal hauling and road maintenance, and rehabilitation services.
It started working for Bayan at the site in 2008, racking up 15 years next May.
Thiess is 50-50 owned by Elliott Management and ASX-listed CIMIC.
