Major mining services company Thiess has won a significant new surface coal contract in Indonesia.

The company said mobilisation for the US$330 million, six-year contract at Kapuas Bara Utama (KBU) in Central Kalimantan would start early in 2025.

PT Bara Utama Persada Raya is a subsidary of Chinese-owned eForce Holdings.

Thiess said it would perform all mining activities at KBU, including site establishment, technical services, overburden removal and water management.

“Under this contract Thiess will also extend its Clean River Program in collaboration with the local community and the International River Foundation, as well as collaborating with the client to upgrade and maintain nearby public roads,” the company said.
