Canada’s King Copper Discovery Corp has picked private contractor Kluane Drilling to undertake a 36,000m drilling program at its promising Colquemayo copper project in southern Peru.
Kluane Drilling Peru, part of Yukon-based Kluane Drilling, has an operational base in Arequipa, about 120km by road from Colquemayo. King Copper says the driller’s modular drilling equipment is well suited to the terrain and logistical requirements at Colquemayo and it has significant drilling experience in Peru.
The TSX junior is testing deeper porphyry copper targets at Colquemayo in its “major new phase of exploration”, which includes 15,000m of diamond drilling.
“The high-grade potential of the Colquemayo mineralised system is illustrated by prior drilling that returned up to 15.15m of 27% copper, within a broader intercept of 237.3m of 2.4% copper, starting at a downhole depth of 306.25m in hole COQ-10-36,” King Copper CEO Jonathan Richards said.
“Our technical work at Colquemayo has now defined a robust pipeline of five initial priority porphyry targets that we plan to systematically test through diamond drilling.
“The scale of the mineralised system, together with the significant copper intercepts from shallower historical drilling, highlights compelling discovery potential across Colquemayo.”
King Copper says it has Declaracion de Impacto Ambiental (DIA) authorisation for more than 36,000m of diamond drilling and up to 59 drill holes from 40 drill platforms, at Colquemayo.
