LKAB buys $18m of Sandvik equipment

Staff reporter

Swedish Government-controlled iron ore producer LKAB has ordered SEK175 million (US$18 million) worth of Sandvik crushing and screening equipment for a new $640 million sorting plant at Malmberget in the country’s north.

Sandvik says its Automation and Connectivity System (ACS) is part of the crusher, screen and feeder deal. The technology would be integrated into LKAB’s plant control system, “enabling enhanced operational control, data-driven decision-making and proactive maintenance”.

Equipment deliveries are scheduled for the second and third quarters of 2027.

The sorting plant is expected to be operational in 2028, processing 24 million tonnes per annum of magnetite ore and 1Mtpa of hematite ore.
