Canada’s Rock Tech Lithium has entered into an agreement with Siemens to support its Red Rock Lithium Converter project team in Ontario with their ongoing definitive feasibility study work, including building a digital twin.
Rock Tech and Siemens signed a memorandum of understanding earlier this year to bring advanced German lithium conversion expertise and industrial digitalisation technology to the planned circa-32,000 tonnes per annum lithium carbonate-equivalent Red Rock project.
Siemens says its digital twin technology creates a virtual, physics-based model of a plant’s processes, energy flows and material streams.
Rock Tech could test, optimise and validate design choices, efficiency, emissions and operational reliability before committing major capital.
“While the first step is to implement a digital process twin the digital twin technology will cover the entire project lifecycle from the feasibility study through engineering and construction to operations,” the company said.
“The parties will also evaluate the potential application of the cooperation to future projects in other G7 countries.”
Rock Tech expects to wrap up its DFS in December this year.
It is also looking at a lithium converter project in Guben, Germany.
“The raw materials for Rock Tech’s converter projects are intended to be sourced exclusively from verifiably ESG-compliant suppliers,” the company said.
